DONATE TO OCEANGATE FOUNDATION

You can fuel underwater discoveries,
the best is yet to come

We proudly fund scientists and researchers who use innovative technologies to explore the oceans. Our current initiatives include:

  • Funding scientists and archaeologists who would like to research marine life, history, and archaeology using manned submersibles as a research platform. Our funding of the science component of the Salish Sea Survey Expedition is an example of the sort of collaboration we seek. OceanGate Foundation also supported a public outreach event related to this expedition.
  • Funding the Caesarea Project, an ongoing archaeological collaboration between Dr. Bridget Buxton and the Israel Antiquities Authority Marine Archaeology Unit to excavate King Herod’s Harbor in Caesarea, Israel using the innovative Dig Ski (see pages 47 and 50 at the link) to move vast amounts of sand quickly and efficiently. In the spring of 2021, we have an opportunity to excavate an ancient 1,600-year old Roman merchantman shipwreck buried deep under the preserving sand that still covers vast areas of Herod’s ancient harbor.
  • Funding an ongoing GIS mapping project of the Hudson Canyon which will continue to add, as they are discovered, important digital data base layers such as coral locations, shipwrecks, previous research dives, and methane seeps to the existing bathymetric map. The resulting compiled map will provide data to facilitate safe exploration and productive research in the Hudson Canyon. This project is guided by Dr. Steve Ross.

With your help, we can continue to fuel these underwater discoveries in history and archaeology and marine sciences and technology. We have funded small expeditions that have yielded big revelations—but the best is yet to come. Your contribution will go directly to support the work of researchers and scientists.

$25

The power of small donations is huge! The researchers and scientists we support would be grateful for any amount.

$1000

Allows a young researcher to participate in the excavation of King Herod’s Harbor for three weeks. PhD students provide crucial, expert manpower for the excavation and these funds cover their travel, food, and lodging.

$3000

Allows a scientist or archaeologist to join an expedition using a 5-crewmember submersible as a research platform. These funds are used to reimburse the scientists for the costs of roundtrip travel to/from the point of embarkation and some basic equipment.
